Sunglasses for the light of Nerja
UV protection, polarised lenses and prescription sunglasses, so you can see well in the Mediterranean light.
The light on the coast is intense, and the sea reflects it back, magnified. A good pair of sunglasses protects your eyes from UV rays, and long exposure to UV has been linked to problems such as cataracts and macular degeneration.
Polarised sunglasses
A polarised lens filters out the light reflected off water and other shiny surfaces. Glare is greatly reduced, and your eyes don’t have to work so hard.

Prescription sunglasses
If you wear prescription glasses, you can also have sunglasses made up to your prescription. That way you see sharply and stay protected at the same time, on the beach or behind the wheel, without having to wear contact lenses.
We measure your prescription in the eye test, which is free and takes an hour.
Brands
Why not just buy a cheap pair?
Cheap sunglasses can look like a bargain, but your eyes may end up paying for it. These are the risks:
- little or no protection against UV rays;
- poor-quality lenses that distort what you see and strain your eyes, which is serious if you drive;
- lenses that aren’t polarised, so the glare is still there;
- flimsy frames that break easily and can injure your eyes or face;
- lenses without coatings, such as anti-reflective or scratch-resistant ones, so they scratch sooner and don’t last as long;
- a poor fit: they pinch, slip or let the sun in at the sides;
- little resistance to knocks.
A good pair of sunglasses costs a little more at first, but it protects you better and lasts longer.
